The Village of Nags Head 5K Race Recap

This morning everyone on our Outer Banks trip ran/jogged/walked the Village Realty 5K that was organized by OBX Runcations. The weather could not have been better, overcast and in the low 70's. There were 130 participants. It was a great race that was well organized and had some great perks. They had packet pick-up available the day before, which is always a bonus in my book. I love showing up race morning with my bib and just heading to the start line.

All participants received a race shirt, string pull bag and an awesome finishers medal.

The course was a great out and back style. It was mostly flat with just one slight incline. This was a great race for me! I wanted to PR, but told myself I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't. I went out pretty fast and when I saw my one mile split of 7:43, I thought to myself, "Oh gosh, I am not going to be able to keep this pace up!" Then mile 2 rolled around and I did a 7:50 mile. I then said to myself, "Ok, keep this pace and you will PR. You've got this." I felt a small burst of energy and picked up the pace for the last 0.75 miles. My third mile was 7:30! My official finish time was 23:28. My previous PR was 25:08. I ended up getting first in my age group, but there were no age group awards.

Cameron also had a great race, he finished in 22:48, which was a PR for him as well. My Mom ran with a bum foot that was hurting from plantar faciitis and still managed to jog the whole thing in 33:02. My Dad who does not run normally, run-walked the race in 33:12. My little sister who is a sprinter and hasn't been running for months due to injury finished in 34:08. TT and Cleve both walked and finished in great time.

Post-race you received a medal and bottle of water. They had a chef there making scrambled eggs and omelets. They also had a nice spread of oranges, bananas, apples, danishes, bagels, juice and milk. They had a nice backdrop to take photos by too.

Overall, this was a great race and I would totally run another race put on by OBX Runcations.

Have you ever run a race on vacation?

That's all for now!
